What is the hardness of the clearcoat on this paint. It is supposedly "special paint" for which added to the cost of the car. I don't want to use something that will harm the clearcoat. I want to detail the car and would like to know if anybody else has this color and has tried to detail theirs or has had it done and knows what cleaner, polish, wax and sealer was used. Looking to find product that gives the best shine possible even if it doesn't last as long as some others. Any help appreciated.

Wow... This sounds exactly like my story. The remote doesn't work unless I open a door in the car first... and yes, my door handle pulls right out of the door.

My door handle just broke too. Is there a recall on this or anything that will pay for it ?

You might try Meguiar's car care products. (Meguiar's.com) they have a large
number of car care products and videos of detaling tips. Another one is Mother's.
You can go to a book store and get a book on auto detaling. I think it's intresting and enjoyable just wating for warm weather.
    Good luck.Mike.

If you really want to set up your car to look nice, use the clay products to remove the roughness on the surface of the paint every year or so. If you use a wax with cleaner on a small area and then use the clay bar and rmove the roughness, you'll feel how much smoother the finish is after the claybar compared to just waxing or wax with cleaner.

Then wax with a wax having no cleaner in it to rub into the outer layer.

The clay bars are easy to use. They are easier than rubbing with a wax with cleaner in it. Immediately wax the car after using the clay bars.

Follow the directions to use a dishwasher soap to remove the old wax first. Use clay bar. Wax. Touch up with a light spray on polish after you wash instead of using a rewax job after several months.

My driver's door handle came off yesterday, ('06 Lucerene) did you find out anything from GM? My dealer said they are aware of the problems, and will fix it on my dime.

    Thanks

Yes....I was lucky , it was still under warranty. Buick didn't act suprised when I took it in. They need to take responsibility for the faulty knob. Hope the other one doesn't fall off as it is no longer under warranty. I love my Buick but the older models didn't have any problems with door knobs so why change things if they aren't broke !

I've read this several times now in former posts here, all drivers door handles. That's more than a coincidence. I have an 06, I hope it doesn't happen to me.

Yes....Buick needs to make this a recall for sure. What determines how recalls are mandated ? This just doesn't seem right that we have to pay for their mistakes.

I took mine to the dealer, warranty just expired, will cost +- $180 for them to fix. I ordered mine from GM Parts house for $ 35 plus shipping. It took about 10 days to get it and about 10 min. for me to install.

IMNSHO GM should recall these and or pay for the replacements.

At least my wife is happy. ;)

Could not agree more...especially since mine is now wearing it's Third of these plastic POS Door Handles. #1 replaced by Dealer, only after engaging zone office, and second just over 1 year later. both failed in exact same location, where cheap plastic broke around the threaded inserts. Owned many automobiles in my lifetime that all fell apart in different areas, but never had one with door handles that continually broke, in the same way, same place etc. Apparently they are more than satisfied with the quality of parts this particular supplier provides...."Exit Soapbox"....Good Luck with yours...Keep me posted when the new one fails!

    sassshooter1,

Would you please be so kind as to post the procedure you used to replace the broken door handle in just 10 minutes?

Wow, it's been a long time since I checked back in. It also has been a long time since I replaced that handle. (Ha) If I remember, I took the door panel off and then was able to access the handle from inside. With my 1/4" drive socket set, I loosened the mounting hardware and installed in reverse order. Actually, it was not very difficult at all. Just make sure you look at everything so you know where it all goes back together. If I remember, the important thing is to check your window as you can get the window guides too tight or too loose. Just check before you button up the door panel.

    Good Luck.

    sassshooter1,

It's been awhile since I checked back in too.

    Thank's for the instructions.
