(AX4N) Transmission NOT engaging?

I am working on a 2005 ford Taurus 3.0 OHV vin "U" The owner was at a red light turning left and when he accelerated the transmission stopped! NO more gears reverse or forward. There was park!
So he had it towed home.I lift the car i dropped the subframe and took the transmission (AX4N) OUT! and replaced it with a different one (new fluid and filter!). I put everything back together lowered the car started it and still nothing in the trans!!
Is there a sensor Im over looking?
Can my PCM cause this?
