All,

I met with an accident few months back. fault is on both sides but police report states as am in fault. Other party have appointed a lawyer to work with my insurance company. My insurance company is paying off the amount to the other person. My insurance company told as if the other party did not agree for the setllement then they will send legal notice to me. My insurance company asked me to contact them if i received a legal notice.

I have few questions,
1. if the other party send me the legal notice, will insurance company take care of everything after that?
2. If they ask me for more money then do i need to pay and get from insurance?
3. Does anyone have experience on how this works.

Thanks,
XYZ.

You should definitely let the insurance company handle it. If you do not have sufficient coverage - the amount that the other party wants you to pay - then the insurance company will not pay it.

I am not sure what you mean by "legal notice." There are many different types of legal notices. Unless they are filing a lawsuit against you, personally, I would let the insurance company handle the requests from the other party.

If the amount of damages awarded exceeds your policy limits - the "legal notice" will come from your company advising you to seek separate counsel for any excess judgement. The cost of the separate counsel will be paid by you.
