I recently had the head gasket replaced on my 1992 v6 4x4 Toyota by an independant shop (I and the shop were unaware of the head gasket campaign) It cost me about $1700. I'm seeking a reimbursement for Totota for the cost. Now Toyota wants me to take it to a dealer to confirm that the repair was done right. I believe that the independent shop used a non-Toyota head gasket for the repair and now Toyota may want to redo the work (probably for free.) But I'm still out $1700. I was never notified of the recall. Does anyone have any suggestions? More Official info? or personal testamony I might be able to use? Please email at underdoug@hotmail.com
I just had the service done on my truck at 56K miles a few months ago. So far so good!! I noticed that some people mentioned not getting a recall notice. Just as a reminder (and maybe to keep others from a similar fate) always keep your address & ownership information current with Toyota, particularly when buying a used vehicle. I once thought this was unnecessary if the original warranty had expired but as you can see from previous posts the benefits of keeping up-to -date. There was a postcard in my owners manual---while you have it on your mind, think back if you have bought a used car lately or moved since you purchased your vehicle(s)--- it may save you some $$$$ in the future!!! Good luck
