high rpm between 1st and 2nd gear 2000 GMC Jimmy 4.3l V6 4x4

Alternator went on me the other day so I got new one and put it in. After install vehicle started having problem shifting from 1st to 2nd gear with rpm up to 3500 after that car shifts to higher gears fine. Before I swapped out alternator i had no problems with shifting at all so I am pretty sure it's not Tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
