Infiniti I30 '99' won't start properly in winter

Two winters in a row my I30 has trouble starting.
It goes to 1500 RPM, then drops to 100RPM and finally back to 1500RPM. this year only when it was minus zero did it actually stall. I had to touch the gas pedal to get it to 'catch' and stay running. It never does this for the dealer but my explanation should suffice in fixing the problem (no luck so far). They put a computer module from a demo in but the problem persists. This problem happens 8 out of 10 starts from november thru march, then its ok. Any ideas?

The first thing I'd check is the coolant temperature sensor.
