Jeep Grand Cherokee Drivers Side Door Latch Broken- Interior lights will not turn off!

I need a quick fix for this until I can get the revenue to get the latch fixed. The door closes but does not stay closed enough for the light to go out. The latch definitely needs to be replaced, but is there a way to turn off the interior light until I can get it fixed so it does not drain battery? Thanks for any suggestions. Jeep Grand Cherokee 96.
