Buick Rendezvous blower won't work

I have a 2002 Rendezvous I smelt a burning plastic smell, shut my car off, went out several hours later and tried it again. Once I started the car I tried to turn my blower up to 5 from 2 fan wouldn't go any faster and my knob broke off it was stuck so I had to turn it hard. When I got back in the car in the morning my blower isnt working at all. I tried turning the inside of the knob with needle nose pliers and it just spins without making the blower work
