2013 Kia Sorento SX Engine Problems

My brother bought a 2013 Kia Sorento SX (V6/FWD) with less than 4,000 miles back in 2012. He loves everything about it since it is loaded and has a third row seat. His praises started turning sour when the engine died on him 3 times all in a span of less than two years. First two incidents where when going over school bumps and the latest was just last month on an a congested interstate at about 35 mph. The engine quit on all three occasions but will start back up after turning everything off. He is a safe driver and does not abuse his vehicles. He has been to the dealership every time but they keep telling him that they could not find anything wrong. They might be right but I believe that that answer is unacceptable. The dealership told him after this third visit to have the vehicle towed when it happens the next time. How convenient is that. The safety of him and his family are at stake. If Kia's computerized engine troubleshooting can not pin point the cause, then it is time to look to a different car manufacturer.

I have the same problem as above member "islandreamer" has, same same, 2013 Kia Sorento, dealing with this problem over a year been in dealer many times can not find it, opened case and Kia main office got involved and after back and fort they said we have recall for this problem, they flush the software and load new, was working for last three months but start to happened again two times in three days, engine shuts down when go over the street bumps or stop in street intersection or driving down from parking maybe 15 to 20 miles. Car is in dealer and got call today from dealer, can't find any problem, I asked them to keep the car and I am taking the case to court. My suggestion to all car buyers, stay away from Kia Sorento.

This is exactly what happened to me with my first time 2013 KIA Sorento. Will NEVER own another KIA! Problems right from the start. First the strut bearings went bad at just over 3,000 miles. Of course they replaced them, but you shouldn't have problems on a brand new vehicle. Strut bearings have gone bad 3 times now. We have just over 26,000 miles on it. Then at 16,000 miles we had the same issue with losing power all together. This also has been in the shop 3 times for this problem. Dealership says there's nothing wrong with it. Take my advice. Don't buy a KIA!

The same thing happened to me today with my 2013 Kia Sorrento. It just turned off on me as I was driving at a low rate of speed. I managed to pull over and put it back in park and restarted it. I drove it straight to the Kia repair shop and they said they could find nothing wrong with it. I asked him if he has ever seen this problem before and he said no they are not having issues with this. I drove it home and it was okay. I hope this doesn't happen again.
I'd also like to add that I bought this Kia brand-new with extended warranty and have brought it in for regular maintenance ever since I bought it. It's very well-maintained. I was parked in the shade and there's no way it overheated.
However about a month ago my battery went dead and they had to replace it.

Engine freezes - Doors locks itself - After turning off everything and restarting it is fine. These things happened with 2012 KIA Sorento - It happened to me once in 2013 while going slow on a bump and yesterday May 27/2014 it happened to my wife. Good that she is not driving in freeway.

Very disappointed with the KIA product. As a owner of a 2013 Kia Sorento w/32000 miles, I am now stuck with a 2013 goat shelter due to blown engine. KIA has failed to stand by warranty even though maint was done, but not by them.Just pushing blame onto service ctr where oil was changed. Engine blew with no warning. No lights, no bells, no whistles, just died on the side of road. Dealer says if they are responsible for anything it would be a blown light bulb in the check engine or low oil warning. Vehicle had traveled 2000 miles after oil change with no problem, so I find very hard to believe the service ctr failed to put in oil. Cost 110.00 $ to find out they were not going to cover under warranty. Initially bought vehicle due to warranty. Vehicle was misrepresented since I purchased. Gas mileage was misrepresented, equipment promised was misrepresented. Really feel like KIA Motors has given me the shaft. KIA MOTORS AMERICA = KMA = KISS MY A** !!!!!! I guess this is really what they are telling me.
