Traction Light, Engine Slow Down.

We were Driving Home Tonight, Doing 65 mph and all of a sudden a message came up that said losing engine power, the a message on traction came up. My vehicle went down to 30 miles an hour.
The traction triangle was lit, which came on with the messages. Is this Common with Impalas. also what can be causing this?? I feel this is a Hazard especially when you're do 65mph and have a 35mph Drop.
