If I wanted to swap out the engine in my Lancer, what would be my options?

The engine has done over 140k kilometres and I think it's not long for this world now. Being Japanese it's lasted this long which is amazing!
What would be my options to swap it out for another engine and what kind of costs could I expect?

That's only 86,992 miles unless there's a typo in your post. That's barely broken in for any engine, Japanese or otherwise. If you're having drivability concerns, then maybe you should seek out an opinion from a mechanic you trust.
