Pioneer Back-up Camera Sound/Video - 2001 Lincoln LS

I have a pioneer double Din stereo (Avh-P4300DVD). I'm trying to get my pioneer (ND-BC1) back up camera to work when I put the car in reverse. Not sure if I have it connected right. I got the power for the cam from the head unit and my head unit reverse input cable I try taping it from the gear shifter but couldn't find any that change pulse when I put the car in reverse. So i ran a wire from the head unit to the back of the car and tap in to the reverse light bulb. Camera comes on if I manually turn it on from the head unit option but won't come on automatically. I has come on automatically once or twice but not every time car is going on reverse. Is there a interface module that I have to purchase?
