My 2005 Jimmy 4X4 makes a noise like gears not quite meshed. There is no slippage in the transmission and the 4wd works fine. However you can be crusing down the highway and that noise starts. If you brake and pull over, by the time the vehicle stops, you will hears a slight clunk and simply accelerate and on you go.......... until it happens again. This has been on-going for almost 2 years and even the local GM dealer can't find it. I have replaced front bearings and even front drive shaft but still persists

Any suggestions...................

Hello, did you find the problem? I have an 05 jimmy, had it since new.

With any noise the most important thing is for the tech to hear it to confirm the source. One possibility is the slider gear that engages and disengages the right hand axle shaft. The problem on some of the trucks is a damaged vacuum hose causing a weak vacuum supply. Then again that is of course relying on whether the vehicle in question uses the vacuum operated system or not.
