Ford Focus jumping when accelerating

The past week my car can be described as "jumping", or what I like to call it, "hiccuping" when accelerating. It mostly happens when first driving, and gets better over time. It has started to happen when backing up as well. I checked the transmission fluid after driving it for a few minutes, and it looks like it could be overfull. It is hard to tell with the crappy dipstick I have. Other than that, there are no problems. The gas pedal feels the same as normal, and the car functions as normal besides the slight jerking that occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
