1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L transmission

I have a 1998 jeep Cherokee with a transmission fault when going from reverse into drive
there's a clunk and the car jerks quite abruptly then it drives fine no problem only does it going from reverse into drive.
when driving change's up and down gear fine any suggestions
