Car to drive for many years
Hi,
I have made this thread to ask what is a good car to buy for 25k and under that would last me years and years without any major issues as long as I maintain it properly. (I don't mean first world problems like the bluetooth won't connect or the remote key isn't working etc... I mean problems like the piston breaks for no fault of my own etc...)
I'm a recently graduated physician (I'm 25), I have plenty of loans to pay off, so ideally this car would stick with me for years to come.
I'm originally form Africa, and Toyotas have some amazing reputation there, but I've been very impressed by styling and bang for buck that American cars offer.
I was thinking of buying brand new Toyota Corolla S, or Dodge Dart, VW Jetta and Chevrolet's alternative in that class.
I want to go for the American option because they offer so many features I'd appreciate, but endurance and durability are my primary concern. I'm sorry if this thread has been posted before. I apologize to the moderators in advance.

No apology necessary and welcome to the forums!
Of those four brands, I think VW has the "worst" reputation for reliability in the US. But all cars are pretty good these days and I'd still buy a VW without concerns over keeping it running. I'm a bit interested in the Jetta SportWagen myself (and that's really more of a Golf), but there's no dealer near where we live.
The True Cost to Own tool estimates repair (and other) costs out to 5 years and can give you an inkling of what you may expect to pay out for keeping a car running.
I think it boils down to buying what your like and keeping up on the scheduled maintenance.
That is the best tool you have just linked me to. Thank you very much.
I intuited Germans had the best engineering. Thanks again. My problem is solved.
