Loud knock, sounds like thrown rod... Ford F-250.

..only truck is running just as before. Had plugs changed recently and oil change. Unfortunately did not receive any warning at all for low oil but did not run out of oil.Have had this problem with truck using oil and not sending any warnings 2 times in the last 2 years.The engine is a 5.3 liter, 8 cylinder with no real problems until this. Any one else experience anything like this or have any idea if a F-250 can run on a thrown rod? Any suggestions appreciated.
