Has anyone had any car (not just Mercedes) that may have added more miles than actually driven?

That's usually the result of under-sized or under-inflated tires. The smaller circumference means the wheels have to make more rotations to cover the same distance. The odometer is simply counting wheel rotations and calculating miles traveled based on the tire circumference. More rotations would lead to more miles being registered than you actually travelled. It works the other way too... larger than normal tires (for a given vehicle) would register fewer miles.
