my 98 carmy just started leaking oil a couple of 10-12 in. spot are developing on the drive way where it is parked, appears to be coming from the mid to lower right side of the engine , where the belts are located. (is it most like the oil pump seal or gasket) or something else.

It could be a valve cover gasket, head gasket or crack. I would suggest that you go to a self serve car wash and use the pressure hose to clean the engine. Then it will be easier to pinpoint where the leak is coming from.

what about the oil pump seal?

Oil pumps are internal, If it was bad then you would not have oil pressure and that would be an entirely different problem.

Pin point the leak and it will save time and stress.
