We love our W211 AMG wagon. Seats 7 (as long as two of them are 4'6" or shorter). Fun weekend family vehicle.

Interesting how there is clearly a preference for sportiness in the budget-minded and family sedan classes with the Mazda3, Ford Fiesta, Mazda 6 and Honda Accord. But in their crossovers, the two trusted organizations chose some of the least sporty vehicles. If you're going to pick a Mazda6 over a Camry, you should pick a Mazda CX-9 over a Traverse or a Mazda CX-5 over a Rogue.

the mazda 3 hatchback is prohibitively expensive considering you can get a larger more family oriented vehicle for the same money, and i don't know why you would pick the fiesta over the fit as a "family" car

In the tony part of California where I live, kids will come home in tears from being mocked by their peers if they're seen being dropped off or picked up in anything without a European badge on it. The only thing on this list that has any local "kid cred" is the Prius... and even there, that was more the case a few years ago before everyone and their grandmother had one.

I know its not available to everyone's budget but we are pretty happy with out Tesla Model S. Its a sport sedan, seats 7, 5 adults and two children in the back. And got more room for luggage than most minivans since there is no engine in the front. We've got 3 children and can still bring another child + another adult with us and still carry a double stroller AND a single stroller + luggage! Great look, roomy, 0 emission. We are planing a New-York to Orlando trip this summer with that configuration, zero $ on gas, free Supercharging. 20min stop (food, drink, toilet) get us 200mi of charge to our next stop, that we would need to do anyway because of the kids.
