Fuel Economy Update for May - 2014 Acura MDX AWD Long-Term Road Test
Fuel economy for our 2014 Acura MDX is updated for May 2014. Two road trips piled on miles and increased our overall MPG average.

While you were mud bogging in Nevada (looks like fun!), our family was camping in Yosemite just over the hill for the first time with our 2014 MDX. We have two small children, and had to bring gear for an additionally family of 5. And we did it! We couldn't see out the back window, but the mirrors were fine. Our mileage going down was just below 30mpg with a tailwind. Really happy with the MPG overall. We filled up in Oakdale, about 60 miles before the park entrance and didn't have to worry about fuel until we came home several days later. It's great having a 450 mile range on such a car. Overall, the two fill ups during this trip averaged almost 27mpg. Quite happy.
Very happy with the ride comfort, the 7 passenger seating, which came in handing one day as we could take a car full for one particular hike we were interested in, while a few others went somewhere else. Yes, we had kids in the back row, and they had no worries with leg room and had a great time.
What I'm growing increasingly frustrated with is the Navigation system. We mostly have the audio system figured out, including the rear entertainment center. But the Nav is giving us fits. I have a 2008 Audi with Nav, and it's tons more easy to use. i hope Acura can provide some firmware upgrades here because it's absolutely dreadful. You can't choose some options while you are moving, which is supposedly for safety, but what about the passenger? And then, when you can't choose those options, the only thing you can do is talk to it. Well, the voice recognition is a joke. Literally, it had us laughing with how it thought things were actually safer by taking our attention away in this manner because it took way more time and effort to get a destination in place. Not to mention, disturbing sleeping kids. Argh!!!
Still a thumbs up on the car for many reasons, but a 1 star review on the navigation interface.
