2000 Ford Expedition - Stuck 4x4

Well it happened yesterday when we went to go pick up a car we had at the shop with a dolly. We drove up and picked up another car for a friend, while we were backing up in his backyard we had to put the car in 4x4 , after that, the car has been in 4x4 and has not changed. The 4x4 light does not show up in the dashboard unless we put it in 4x4 , but we know its in 4x4 because it runs exactly the same and feels funny driving. Dos anyone know the problem??

Bad shift motor? Did you try cycling into 4Lo to see if that wakes it up?
