Mercedes Sprinter Cranking Not Starting

Hie I am new hear so please bear with me, I have a Merc Sprinter CDI 411 2000 Model it just died on the road. We checked the fuel delivery to the injectors and there was non, so we replaced the Primary fuel pump and it started only to die again just 1km down the road. Now its back to cranking without starting. Any advice guys?
