2003 Infiniti gasket oil leak

Do I have to replace the valve covers as well as the gaskets for oil leaking onto my spark plugs? Some dealers say I should replace the valve cover along with the gaskets............because once you take the valve cover off the sealer won't seal again and Infiniti doesn't sell the sealer by itself.

  • If valve cover is warped or damaged whatsoever, it should be replaced. If valve cover is not warped/damaged, it can be reused. Dealerships like to be sure of these things and would want to avoid any risk from a tiny warp/nick/damage with the old valve cover. In my experience, dealer shops like to get the job done 100% correct on the first try, for whatever labor is involved, even if it involves more new parts than might be minimally necessary. I usually prefer that approach too. It does not surprise me that dealer would default to replacing the valve cover along with installing the new gasket.
