I gotta say, I'm surprised by the Volt. I love the concept of it, and the execution so far has appeared to be well-done. However, I'm hesitant to own another GM product after all of the recent recalls. Call me paranoid, but I owned a 2003 Saturn Ion that I got rid of shortly after the recall.
I just don't know if I could put trust in GM again. I'm glad the Volt is working for so many, though.
Like the Prius, the Volt has a start button, as opposed to an ignition switch that was subject to all the recalls. After two years of aging, 39,178 total miles, 25,199 of which were on battery (the equivalent of about 630 full-recharge cycles), our 2012 Volt battery rated at “10 kWh useable capacity” is still overachieving and had 10.1 kWh available on a recent run! (On this run it also exceeded (as usual) its rated 35 miles per charge by 31%) reaching 45.9 miles. When has the Prius topped Consumer Reports’ Owner-Satisfaction Survey for one year, let alone two consecutive year? Porsche 911 took second place.
