Elantra fuel gauge inoperable and stalls as if out of gas (we fixed this part...gauge still inop)

My son recently purchased a 2000 Hyundai Elantra Wagon. Fuel gauge was inop so we had the fuel level sending unit replaced and it still doesn't work. While replacing the sending unit we also replaced the pump as the vehicle kept stalling as if out of gas (fuel filter and strainer also replaced for warranty). Vehicle still continued to stall as if out of gas....put a couple of gallons in and it would be fine. We thought we were filling up the tank because the gas pump would shut off but in reality it wasn't filling up.

Did some research and it turns out the charcoal canister (filter) had broken apart and causing a clog and a problem with the fuel tank unable to vent so it will not let the tank get full. We've replaced the canister and there seems to be a "clog" somewhere else too...still looking (possible venting solenoid or hose(s) to tank and canister). This we can live with...when gas pump shuts itself off we just pump a little at a time.

I need help determining why the fuel gauge will not work. I've replaced the instrument cluster panel and it still shows empty. Empty light will come on and go off, just can't register how full tank is as it is also on "E". Please help. Is there a fuse I can check or a diagram I can follow to check connections? Please help as it drives us crazy trying to determine how much gas is left in the tank.
