yes, pontiacfan85, the ball joint is the reason why its shaking. it's a relatively dangerous condition which can result in catastrophic failure (ever seen car disabled with wheel "folded" under the car?). note that fixing the ball joint will likely expose a chain of front-suspension repairs/replacements. the ball joint is just the one component that is clearly 100% worn-out now. by replacing/tightening the one ball joint, that will quickly loosen other 99%-worn-out suspension/steering components, exposing the fact that any 2001 vehicle will need a top-to-bottom suspension rebuild after 13 years in order to be safe & road-worthy. if you have local/trusted mechanic, s/he can advise you with minimal cost if you choose to go minimal-$ for each repair, instead of committing to bigger-$ for top-to-bottom suspension swap.
