After 18,000 miles, I'm averaging 36.5mpg combined (long term running average) in my 2014 Mazda 3i Touring 5-door.
Best Fill: 44.5mpg
Worst Fill: 31.5mpg
Best Range: 469miles
Common Range: ~415miles
I do a fairly reasonable mix of city and highway driving, and I don't any special tricks or techniques to maximize my mileage.
I have a fuel Econ trick: when you have the cruise set bump the gear selector into manual mode and select 6th gear. They cruise will still work in manual mode but here is the best part. The transmission WON'T downshift on inclines such as hills. It will always stay in 6th. I'm getting 400-420 miles out of a tank with mostly all freeway driving at 70-75mph.
