Just posted this to the regular '99 SuperDuty list, thought it might be of interest here too. This company www.paxtonautomotive.com have just released a supercharger for the Ford V10. Seems a little expensive at around $4500, but promises 40-60% hp. increase. What does everyone think?

$4K is about median for a good HD supercharger kit actually. Not bad for 125 hp. Combine it with the Powerpack exhaust and headers (around $2K), and you have quite the truck.

    standford,
I ordered my SD CC f-350, 4x4,v-10 srw, 3.73 rear end and auto trans. on 2/2/99. what are you getting for gas mileage running empty on the highway. I am also curious about after market K&N air filter system and Cat back exhaust systems. I would like to improve the performance of the V-10 without spending Thousands of dollars.
What is your opinion of adding a transmission cooler. I will be towing around town with hills and in the summer with temperatures in the mid 90's. I believe keeping the transmission fluid cool is the life of the transmission. I would appreicate response from anyone reading this post. Thanks!

There has been a lot of talk about the K&N filters, some like 'em some don't. I have used them and couldn't tell if it was there or not as far as performance was concerned. I'll stick to the stock units from here on. Aux. tranny coolers are a must for towing, IMO. I have a PSD and currently awaiting an upgrade for my auto trans. After 31K miles and heavy towing the tranny feels like slush, really noticed it after I drove my old chevy. As for the cat back, you will see some improvement in performance, but not a great deal. I got a flyer on the Bank's system, headers and ram air, and it looks impressive along with the numbers. Their headers have the pat. pending "Power Pickle". Laughed when I read it, but it makes sense.

With the DRW and 4.30:1 gears, I'm getting up to 11.5mpg on the highway. When I ordered mine, 4.30 was the only way to get L/S -- I'm seriously contemplating going with 3.73:1 as a mod.

As for exhaust systems -- you get what you pay for. Where do you live and how long do you plan to keep the truck? The Banks system is $2.5k installed, but its all high-grade stainless steel. You can get a custom system put on for $200 at your local muffler shop -- it'll sound nice, but will probably sap power and may rust out in a short amount of time.

Thanks for the input. I read about the Banks electronic modules for the transmission and the air to fuel ratio controls. Please post the address or phone number for Banks products. I will install a transmission cooler. I live in Russellville Arkansas, it is hilly and get hot in the summer months. It is not uncommon to reach the 100's in July, August or September.
    Thanks again for your input.

5th wheel hitch location, just got my F 250 SD on friday I need to put my hitch on it from my 97 F250 light duty. The Dealer mounted it about 6 to 8 inches behind the center of the rear axel on my 97 this seems to far back to put it on the 99, should I mount it over the axel or should I keep it further back,I don't want to turn to sharp and put the camper into the rear of the cab. Even with it mounted 6 to 8 inches back I had to be carefull not to cut it to short. What is the best location to mounted it on a short box pickup.

Can anyone point me to a manufacturer of aux. fuel cells? I am looking to have a fuel cell placed in the front of the pickup box under the toolbox. Saw the setup before on a horse hauler F-350 out of Wasilla, Alaska. it seems like a natural way to use that 8" of space under the toolbox. I'm wondering if this is currently being done or am I going to have to get it custom fabricated?

Hitch should be mounted so the center of the kingpin is preferably one to two inches in front of the axle. Unless the trailer is very light, it should never be behind the axle.

Thank you for the information on the hitch location. The camper I'am now pulling is a Terry 27.5 J About 7000 Pound. Hope to go bigger in the future, I just want to make sure its in the right location. Iam going to have a Terry Dealer install it on March 30 and He also said it has to go about 1" ahead of the axle. With my short bed I will need to be carefull. Thanks again.

the fuel tank you describe is readily available.
I wasn't looking for one, so I didn't pay attention, but I did an infoseek on aluminum+truck+boxes and many of those people also had the fuel tank.
most of them have a vertical section that sits in front of the toolbox, thereby pushing the toolbox back 6".

any further word on your hitch...'cause our V-10, 4x4 poised a problem for hitching up---too high by several inches. Didn't know whether you ran into this problem. Also, any drawbacks about the 27 5J. We're picking our brand new one up as soon as hitch(PullRite) is installed(mid-April). Thanks! JB
  • lat1lat1 Member Posts: 4
No problem that I know of, my F250 came with 2" blocks yours may have came with 6" blocks, Ford will change it too 2" if you ask them to. So far were happy with the 27 5J only used it a couple of days last fall. Make sure that the fresh water tank fill tube has hose clamps on both ends, were getting water leaking out into the side of the camper. Dealers going to fix it.

?. Did you need to re-adjust the springs on your rv---our RV dealership had to flip the springs because the F250 4x4 was just to high..Even with a 2" block, it appeared to be too high. Are you saying that you have the necessary 6-8 inches between the underside of your 5th wheel and the top of the rails of your truck....because we had our truck measured at the RV shop....no way could we have hooked up the RV, at least without flipping the springs...and we may even have to lower the F250 by 2". Just to make it securely towable. What's your opinion...because if we lower the truck, maybe we could have the RV dealership reverse the springs....but it does not appear to be an option...any thoughts!!

Just got my F250SD XLT CC V10 4x4 and am trying to figure out the best place to install my electric trailer brake controller. Any ideas?
  • tnt2tnt2 Member Posts: 115
To D Lake ... I installed mine right above the 4x4 lever. If you have the esof, you'll see the flat spot that I mean. I use a Draw-tite digital rather than a Tekonsha though, so it doesn't matter what position it is in.
  • todlaketodlake Member Posts: 48
TNT2.... THANKS FOR THE ADVICE. I KINDA FIGURED THAT WAS MY BEST BET AFTER I REALLY SPENT SOME TIME DRIVING IT AND THEN POKING AROUND UNDERNEATH. PUT ON 600+ MILES THIS WEEKEND, MAINLY BACKROADS, FROM OHIO TO TENNESSEE AND BACK. WHAT A SWEET RIDE FOR SOMETHING SO STOUT...
  • gmacegmace Member Posts: 31
That place on the lower dash directly above the transfer case shift lever is where I will most likely mount the Tekonsha Sentinel. The other location I am considering is a 3"x4" place on the upper dash that may be for ESOF buttons or some diesel option my truck doesn't have. Useful info:4x4, crew cab, longbed, Lariat, V10, 4spd auto, manual hubs and transfer case shift, 3.73ls, trailer tow pkg. Any body have a better spot? Greg
  • todlaketodlake Member Posts: 48
GREG - MOUNTED MY DRAW-TITE DIGITAL IN THE INDENTATION ABOVE THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTER. WORKS GREAT, EASY TO REACH, EASY TO WIRE. MAKE SURE TO PULL THE PANEL AWAY WHEN DRILLING JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T KNICK ANYTHING. DIDN'T TAKE IT ALL THE WAY OFF, JUST PULLED IT OUT ENOUGH TO SEE BEHIND IT. FORD'S WIRING PACKAGE MADE IT A SNAP TO INSTALL. HOPE EVERY OTHER MODIFICATION IS AS EASY. TO D LAKE

I will be stopping by the local dealer this friday to see about how long it will take to install.

Has anyone done any performance modification
to their super duty? If so, how's your
    experience?

    Hi Guys,

i have not been back here in a while since I learned about www.ford-diesel.com. It has a lot of great stuff. I know I sound like a commercial but I am just a user. There are SD mechanics and ford engineers and truck designers. I know that Ford watches the pages and forums as well. The bed hight has been discussed for a long time and the first fix remove the 4 inch blocks was redone and they now put in 2 inch blocks bt need to change out the brake lines (too short). A lot of info on turbo bolts falling out on the Turbo Diesel. It is not only PSD but lots of V10 guys and 5vr info as well. Check it out. You will like it. There are sections on Cat delete and chip performance. How to fix the driver side convex mirror lift kits, oil discussion(way too heated) oh well. I log on every day and learn something as well.

How well does the Electronic Transfer Case hold up with the F350 4X4 CC v10 3.73 SRW?
