ok, scientic, you probably did all the requisite tests, in which case, i don't know the answer and please accept my apology for that and this response for anyone who hasn't done the proper diagnostics:
please don't just add refrigerant - doing so is a fast-track to polka-dot holes in the ozone layer or whichever layers are being savaged by chloroflourocarbons lately. instead please consider to diagnose the AC system using the requisite diagnostic tests. if you don't have the correct equipment/fittings/gauges handy, please consider to give up on the idea of air-conditioning unless you are willing to sink the proper $ for a qualified technician to diagnose/fix it.
fwiw, freon is R12 and hasn't been available/in-use/legal since a previous millennium. possibly today the term 'freon' refers to whatever is the best gluten-free AC refrigerant.
adding refrigerant of any sort without pressure/temperature testing the system seems quite unwise since odds are approximately 100% that it will soon leak again. it wouldn't need refrigerant if there weren't an additional problem.
