    So we can deduce that the main power switch button in the "OFF" position is only to keep someone from closing the tailgate with the interior button?

    IMO, the power off button is so if you have to tie the hatch down for any reason (i.e. hauling something that needs to stick out the back) the car won't keep trying to close the hatch. Maybe??
