2016 Volvo XC90 Debuts Ahead of 2014 Paris Auto Show | Edmunds.com
Unveiled this week in Sweden, the 2016 Volvo XC90 is set to arrive in U.S. showrooms in April 2015.

Only 7 buttons could be a plus or a minus depending on which buttons stay. The problem is that most designers opt to retain the least useful buttons and bury the important and frequently used HVAC controls into submenues on the the display screens.
Someone at Edmunds needs to edit this post. "Volvo says a well-equipped XC90 with the standard V6 engine will be priced at around $48,900." Well, Volvo doesn't have a V6 in its line-up and the old inline 6 cylinder (3.2 & T6) have been dropped altogether - even the new T4 is a 4-pot motor.
Two words- Next Level. Gorgeous body, great interior, very upscale looking. So, can we talk about the headlights? Every company seems to be adding a tadpole tail running up the fender. It looks like a money shot. Every other shape has a sort of rounded square, but this is just random. Its a nit pick, but throws off the look.
I agree on the need to edit the post..."the Swedes confirm the SUV is sized between the BMW X5 and Volvo Q7." I didn't know Volvo had a Q7.
Can they lose that two tone steering wheel?
I have two concern. If price of well equipped XC90 is higher than $45K, XC90 will fail to capture market. In order to compete with MDX, the price has to be in that range. Once XC90 beats MDX, MB & BMW customers will come by itself. If XC90 fails to snatch MDX, it will hard to get MB & BMW customers in the door. Volvo should look for volume not profit at this stage of hard time.
Some how, I don't like square airbag compartment in the steering wheel. Old triangular shape of XC60 looks better.
Many of my relatives and friends would have ordered limited edition on Wednesday but with $66K price tag, no one is ordering. This online sale with $66K price will be disaster on Wednesday. If Volvo had marked the price $46K, it would have gone in first hour. After that all those media frenzy about XC90 would have given more free advertising than paid advertising.
However, Volvo has strayed far from the truth about this SUV. They did not sell out all the First Editions in August and these First Editions are still being offered to people in the US . Not a single 2016 XC90 has been sold here. Buyers in the United States, at least, were just asked to put down a $4000 fully refundable deposit. That means a person can just decide not to take possession and get their deposit back. It is not inconceivable that Volvo may end up offering incentives to move this actually nonexistent, untested, unproven vehicle.
Not a single production model exists for this high priced SUV. There is absolutely no reliability information and this SUV has not yet been test driven over a reasonable time period by an independent organization. As of this date Volvo has not even let any independent expert actually drive one of the few concept SUVs they move around from show to show. Apparently the Volvo headquarters in the US doesn't even have one.
Many of these "sales" will just disappear if Volvo does not offer a warranty/service plan superior to the BMW plan and if Volvo tries to ignore the Krona/Euro - USD exchange rate changes since the price was announced in August.
So while it sounds good, and it would be nice if Volvo has a winner, there is a real chance the First Edition buyers may have numbered lemons. That is why I expect potential buyers of this vehicle to be very wary until it is proven on American roads, unless Volvo comes out with the absolutely best warranty/service plan in the business and accepts the exchange rate changes.
