Free Synthetic Oil Changes for Life - What is the Catch?

We were looking at a certified pre-owned mazda for my son to use to commute to college. One of the dealers is offering free synthetic oil changes for the life of the car. Their CPO price of the car is fairly reasonable. It doesn't make sense. Dealers need to make money. I can't see how they can make money giving us free synthetic oil changes for the life of the car. There has to be a catch? I did some googling but didn't find anything. Can someone shed some light on what the catch is here?

By getting him (or you) into the dealership regularly, the service writer may try to upsell your son on maintenance the car may not need. And on one of those visits to the dealer, your son may fall in love with another car, or at least want to do business with them when he's eligible for that college grad incentive.

Free maintenance isn't something Mazda offers on CPO cars, so you may want to check to see if it's a factory CPO car.
