Security Light Comes on, then refuses to let the truck start for 10 Minutes - '98 Blazer

Hello! My 98 S10 Blazer has a love affair with the security light. Sometimes it's on, sometimes it's off. When it's on, don't shut it off to do a quick run in and out of the store, or house. You will be sitting for 10 minutes for the system to recycle before you dare turn the key to start it again. How can I stop this affair before I rip the steering wheel off in frustration? Any sane suggestions would be very appreciative as the dealer has no clue! thanks!
