Buying used car, need advice

To start off I will be a first time buyer. Gonna be looking into getting a used car preferably under $14k. So far I've been looking into the Toyota Camry and the Chevy Cruze. It's mainly going to be used for city and driving to work, with the occasional yearly road trip of 14+ hours. Any other advice on what to get would be great.
