Nissan Rogue USB connection

This is first car where I plan to use the USB connection, since it does not have a CD changer. It is very conveinently located, BUT you can barely see the hole for it except in bright daylight. Turning on the overhead lights doesn't help at all.
Also, the hole is open all the time when not in use.
Anybody using their USB connection? Any hints on using it?
