kd6aw1, What kind ot tires do you have on the car? People are saying that I won't get a comfortable ride on GoodYears no matter what tire pressure I set them at.
  • kd6aw1kd6aw1 Member Posts: 116
Have the standard Bridgestone Turanza 17s and the ride is very smooth and the handling great. Now have 12,000 miles on them and can't notice any wear yet. When they wear out I would replace with the same kind based on my experience to date. Hope this helps!

I've been getting about 16mpg on the first two tanks. I'm at about 370 miles. I've heard that it should climb up to 19 after a little while. I also have the Bridgestones (and sport suspension). I find the ride to be a little rough on bad pavement, but fine overall. I'd think the Bridgestones and the non-sport suspension would be smoother. I have no idea what the psi is at this point. Whatever the dealership set it to. I bagged up some stuff from my old car (tire gauge included) and haven't sorted through it yet to decide what goes in the new car, and what goes in the round filing cabinet.

When I first got mine it had 38 psi all the way around. I quickly changed it to 30 which is what the door sticker calls for. I don't have the sport suspension, Even so, I find the ride too stiff for my tastes. After all, how often do you go flying into a corner on the "ragged edge". Just today, I went into a blind corner a little too fast & almost broadsided a pickup that was slowly turning left in front of me on to a side road. That's the trouble with driving fast thru the "twisties" You never know when you're going to come face to face with some idiot on your side of the road. By the way, my brakes shut things down faster than anything I've ever driven.

I keep mine at 32 psi. Just checkede them yesterday and put about 2 pounds on each tire from last check.

Dealer offered to replace GoodYears with Bridgestones if I don't take advantage of the first two free oil changes. Is it worth it? Will I really feel the difference? And how much will I have to pay for the oil changes? I got to make a decision by Friday.

kelly blue book just announced over the wires that the g35 for 2003 is considered to be one of the best 10 vehicles under 60k in retaining it's value over the next 5 years.
  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
I have driven both the Goodyears and the Bridgestones. I absolutely INSISTED on the Bridgestones when I bought my 2003.5 sedan. If it was me, I'd jump all over that offer from the dealer to get rid of the Goodyears. After that, I'd perform my own oil changes at the cost of about $15.00 a pop keeping the receipts where I purchased a OEM Infiniti (Nissan) filter and the appropriate oil. If you prefer a smoother quieter tire, you will really appreciate the Bridgestones.
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
It is absolutely worth it, don't even think twice about it...you will be much happier. Take this from someone who had the Crapyears on the car then had the dealer take them off three days later.

Kbb predicted that after 5 years the G35 will be among a select group of 10 cars with the best resale value.

Argh, that dashes any hopes of getting s 2003 used on the cheap!
  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
I can't seem to locate the information on KBB.com about the G35 holding it's value so well. Does anyone know the web address where that information may be?

    Thanks

Thanks for the input. The garnet fire color looks sharp when clean, but each one I see looks very dirty.

You say the garnet is between the black and silver, I guess that means the silver also show dirt easily??? What about the desert platinum and the new blue color.

    Thanks.

I picked up the latest brochure for the G35 sedan and when I got home I noticed that if you get the white/ivory exterior the only color option for the interior is willow. The black/graphite is no longer an option. Does anyone know if this is a misprint or if it is correct?

Also, I would still like to see Infiniti add more interior color options (light to medium gray).
  • kfhmailkfhmail Member Posts: 199
Does anyone know if the wood option is "real" wood or is it fake/plastic?

    Thanks.
  • stebustebu Member Posts: 204
I guess it depends upon what kind of dirt you mean. The worst time of year for dirty cars here in the NE is winter. The roads are filled with salt and sand that leaves a chaulky white residue all over the cars. In this case, a light silver (but not a dark grayish silver) is about the best at hiding road grime. It's even better than white. Black is the worst followed by any other dark solid color such as blue, green, red, gray, etc... Basically, the darker it is, the more it shows the dirt.
  • kfhmailkfhmail Member Posts: 199
I should define what I mean by "dirt" better. I am actually talking about normal everyday "DUST" in "normal" weather. I am not talking about snow and associated grime or actual mud. (Just regular dust and driving in rain and the associated dirt/dust that comes from rain and wet roads or dust settling on a car from a frost or morning dew.)
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
I had a medium gray metallic car once that was pretty good at hiding normal dusty dirt. The car didn't look dirty, it just lost it's shine. Silver is good at this too, as well as most other lighter colors. My G35 is Desert Platinum, and hides dirt pretty well, and partially hides rainspots (invisible in the shade, but they show up in the sun). White is much much better at hiding dirt than you'd think. Black and dark colors are horrible at hiding dirt. Black even shows off fingerprints. Stick to the lighter colors. I think the white/silver/beige/gray range, metallic or not, are the best dirt hiders.

"The garnet fire color looks sharp when clean, but each one I see looks very dirty."

That's only because not many people ever keep their vehicles clean most of the time--certainly not descriptive of me! Basically, what it comes down to, is what color do you like the most, and how much effort are you willing to put into maintaining it? Being a detailer on the side, I'll probably never buy anything other than pure black (gorgeous on just about everything) because I never allow dust or dirt to accumulate much at all. The car never goes without at least 5 coats of sealant and/or wax either, so that's not an issue.

I will recommend one thing. Never go to a car wash, or, if you're desparate, go touchless. This is just about the worst thing to do to paint, other than letting birdie presents dry and bake all over the place. If you want minimal maintenance and don't have the time or want to be detailing often, go silver, beige, or a very light green. White's good too, but it can look quite disgusting when dirty enough.

I agree with beach 15. White is really good at hiding dirt. I used to own a white Mazda 323 from 1986 to 1996. Color held up very well over the years. Anyway... I went to an Infiniti dealer last week for a test drive and found that the white only comes with the willow interior. Graphite leather is no longer offered with that color. I would get the white, but not with willow. I prefer the graphite interior. I love the Garnet Fire. I am a nut when it comes to keeping a car clean. I wax my cars at least 3 or 4 times a year with Zymol.

Test drove the 6MT coupe to get a feel for tranny. WOW is all I have to say!! Putting down a deposit next week on a 6MT sedan. Most likely won't see one until May if I'm lucky! Wish me luck.

Does anyone own a Caribbean Blue G35...how is it for showing dust/dirt. (Normal everyday dust/dirt)

    Thanks.

The wood trim is a thin veneer of wood over plastic.

    To all G35 Owners!
Read message boards about rattling and vibrations in your new cars.
Need to know if Owners with /leather package have the same problems.
  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
Not a single rattle, squeak, or vibration in my 2003.5 non premium package leather sedan. I did notice some rattles in premium package (reclining back seats) sedans during two separate test drives. That's why I went with the non premium package model. "Vault like" is the best way to describe my car.
  • jwilson1jwilson1 Member Posts: 956
I think there's a TSB to fix the rocking seats and rattle in them. New rails and mechanicals are ordered.

I thought I read in a Motor Trend article that at 60 mph, the stabalized RPM is @ 1900. Is this a misprint? My tach indicates in the low 2000s. Anyone else notice this. I am sure it is a normal performance reading.
  • neaudineaudi Member Posts: 21
"You say the garnet is between the black and silver, I guess that means the silver also show dirt easily??? What about the desert platinum and the new blue color."

I meant the silver would hide the dirt the best, the black would be the absolute worst, and the garnet is somewhere in between.

After driving for a couple days immediately following a snow event, my Garnet Fire G35 did look very dirty. However, I washed it about 1 week ago, and while it is not sparkling clean, it still has a bit of a shine to it. I am very happy how it is not screaming "wash me".
  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
bobp11 is correct. Motor Trend did make a mistake on the RPM's at 60. I'll bet they got the 6M and A5 readings backwards. They also made a mistake by stating that only the coupe has speed sensitive power steering. I'm looking at my sedan's window sticker. The sedan also has speed sensitive power steering. Overall the article was very glowing for the G's.

    Beach15,

I'd like to wax the car myself occasionally. After applying the wax with the supplied sponge, what do you recommend using to buff off the wax and avoid swirl patterns in the paint?
  • halvebhalveb Member Posts: 6
Swirls in paint are not caused by buffing wax of they are caused by dirt on the paint. Before you wax your car you must make sure that all dirt is removed.

A suggestion is to run your hand across the paint after the car has been cleaned, it should feel like glass. If it doesn't then the surface has small particles of dirt, etc.

One approach is to use detailers clay. This clay is applied to the finish and it absorbs the particles of dirt that are on the paint. In addition if the paint is in poor condition you may need to polish the car to get rid of imperfections (scratches, etc.).

Finally when the paint surface is totally clean apply the wax and feel free to buff to your hearts content. I use a dual action polishers to make the job easier. Keep the paint surface clean by occaisionally wiping the surface down with detailer's solution (lubricates the paint and helps collect dirt in the towel). by the way you should only use 100% cotton or a microfiber cloth on the paint surface.

A good resource for taking car of paint is www.griotsgarage.com. Their stuff is kind of expensive but you can learn alot about caring for car finishes and buy your products locally. I do buy their stuff and it is good.

anybody know how to optimize the acceleration on the g35?
  • stanny1stanny1 Member Posts: 962
Motor Trend stated the lower hp of the Sedan vs. the Coupe was chiefly the restriction of the exhaust system.
So my priority is to replace the stock set-up with a good cat-back system when available.
Has anyone done some research on this? Borla, Magnaflow, Nismo, etc?

Does anyone know when the six-speed will be offered on the G35 sedan? What about prices?

I've heard February, but it's still not an option on the infiniti.com website.

Also, are they going to be produced in regular numbers? I would hate to have to pay "extra" (ie, over MSRP just b/c of limited supply) just to get a manual tranny.
  • carshopper46carshopper46 Member Posts: 24
I heard February also for the six speed- that was from Infiniti customer service- I haven't heard any info on numbers or pricing. Please post any info you get and I will do likewise.

Did you leave the fold and get yourself a "G"?
  • corkfishcorkfish Member Posts: 537
MSRP of $29,100 for the base 6MT. Any chance of getting it for $28,000 even?
  • neaudineaudi Member Posts: 21
Just got off the phone with GM of dealership where I bought my G35. He informed me that his first shipment of 6MT arrives in 3 weeks. His allotment is extremely small and they will be getting top dollar.

AWD is looking to be very late 2003 or early 2004.
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
Sounds like the MSRP of the MT will be less than the AT (unlike the coupe), but for a few months they'll be rare, so you'll pay full price, and they'll effectively cost more than a similarly equipped AT.

I don't think I could wait that long. I've had my G35 for just over 3 weeks now, and the odometer has just passed 600. I'm going crazy waiting for 1200. Though, as a consolation, even under break-in rules it toasts the 92 Accord it replaced. (That's 4-cyl, AT, pre-VTEC, if you want to feel my past pain.) :)
  • jwilson1jwilson1 Member Posts: 956
The 3 dealers I've heard speak have all of their allocation sold for the next couple months.

The Nismo exhaust will be available first for the Z, then for the Coupe. Haven't heard anything about the sedan.

I recently obtained the latest G35 brochure from a dealer and all the pictures of the red G which I assume was supposed to be garnet fire looked a lot more like the "laser red" on the coupe.

Has anyone heard anything about the garnet fire being replaced with the laser red or some other brighter red???

Also you can no longer get the graphite interior with the white/pearl exterior.

I do not understand Infiniti's choices for interior colors. First only two choices at the extremes just doesn't seem smart to me. The willow is too light and the black/graphite, I like it, but it is too dark. These two options would be ok it you had at LEAST a third/middle choice. I still believe they need an interior color like a light to medium gray. Then the buying public would have better choices.

Anyway why have only one interior color option on some colors. (I realize that it is cheaper/more efficient to produce cars with fewer options/choices, but being more efficient will not do you any good if you do not give the buying public good choices.

Any thoughts on interior colors and if the red color is being changed?

    Thanks.
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
Red is not changed, it is just the lighting for the pic.

I just got the Garnet Fire sedan and it is an awesome color, kind of a dark metallic burnt red. I think it looks great.

Infiniti.com emailed me w/ a message that this car would be available on 1/27/03, that there is no national pre-order process and that they don't have any information available to send out. My local dealer (Charlotte, NC) seems to know very little about this forthcoming model. So, how are people already buying this car for delivery when it comes available?

The lack of decent gas mileage has kept me away from the Automatic G35. Does anyone know what the mileage will be for the MT version?
  • carshopper46carshopper46 Member Posts: 24
The Infiniti press release says $29,100 for base GT with MT. Base on auto is 27,100 per Edmunds. Am I missing something? A 2K premium for MT. Someone steer me straight.
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
27,100 is for the cloth version. 29,650 is for the leather version.

The 29,100 price for the 6MT includes the sport-tuned suspension ($425), and I'll bet it's not available in cloth.
  • bigorange30bigorange30 Member Posts: 1,091
However, I'm not surprised that the manual transmission is higher than the auto. The manual is in high demand right now and they aren't making many. It will ease after a while.
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
I'm sorry, I might not have been clear. The 27,100 and 29,650 prices were for the A/T version, for comparision against the 29,100 6MT version. The concern was that the 6MT was 2k more expensive, but since it has the sport-tuned suspension (and I'm guessing leather, too) thrown in, it's actually less expensive on the MSRP. Though, I'm sure you can bargin a comparably equipped A/T down quite a bit, while they'll stick firm to MSRP on the 6MT for a few months.
  • bigorange30bigorange30 Member Posts: 1,091
What is the $27,100 price on and why is it lower? Doesn't the A/T have the sport-tuned suspension too?
  • kelly523kelly523 Member Posts: 18
The $27100 is for the AT sedan with cloth interior - no options are available on this car, and very few are available (my local dealer has none). The $29650 is for the AT sedan with leather, and options/packages can be added from there. I've read on freshalloy.com that the 6MT sedan will start at $29100 and leather will be standard (no cloth option), with options added from there. As someone else mentioned, expect these cars to come with several options and very little haggling room during the first few months of availability.
  • corkfishcorkfish Member Posts: 537
$27,100 is for the base car with automatic transmission. Since no one appears to be paying MSRP for these cars, I would think you could get the $29,100 6MT for less than $29,000 ( maybe if you're willing to wait).
