Wong, What is a Asian [non-permissible content removed]? Never heard of that expression before. If you don't want to answer in public, shoot me an email at gabetsai@aol.com.

I just drove by my local Infiniti dealer to see how the G35 was doing. They had over 40 on the lot! Are these cars still selling at MSRP (or just under)? Seems with inventory like that you should be able to get some good deals...

I am waiting for the manual G35 to come out before I make a decision on a new sedan. I really hope the freeway gas mileage will increase significantly (existing automatic G35 EPA of 24mpg stinks!) with the manual tranny. On this forum it seems that most G35 owners get even less than the EPA mileage!

Does anyone know why the freeway mileage is so poor on the G35? The auto BMW 330i receives an EPA of 27mpg and the auto Acura TL-S (I know it is FWD but it has an extremely powerful engine which still requires gasoline to run) boasts 29mpg! Why is the G35 so far off from these figures?
  • ivan_99ivan_99 Member Posts: 1,681
They are sort of selling at MSRP. Instead of selling the car at less than MSRP the sales man kept increasing what my trade-in was worth.

He went up 2,000 on my trade in which is sort of funny money...but as long as my payments are less he can call it what he wants.

mileage...maybe G35 owners have heavy feet...Strange, but on CarPoint and Edmunds the EPA lists mileage at 19/24, but on the Infiniti site it's listed at 19/26.
  • boomer23boomer23 Member Posts: 125
Mileage on the window sticker is 19/26. They must have updated it just before the car was released, because a lot of the early info said 19/24.

The Bose instructions specifically say not to use anything but original CD's. I copied a bunch of mine and use the originals in the car and the copies in my sound system. Seems to work ok.
  • morgan1112morgan1112 Member Posts: 36
I can play burned CDs too. I do get a little bass rattle and/or distortion on the burned CDs that I don't with original but that probably has to do with the quality of the material I burned from.
  • pdrumans1pdrumans1 Member Posts: 48
I don't have the G35 yet, but my current Nissan has the factory cass/cd player which is by Clarion, the same manufacturer as in the G35 whether Bose enhanced or not. Regular cd's have perfect clarity, but burned cd's do sound muffled or distorted at higher volume.
I friend told me (true or not) that when a song is copied as an MP3 file, the MP3 program takes out little parts of the sound that is usually not heard and this is how it is condensed. When the MP3 file is converted to a wave file to burn onto a cd, it's still missing the parts taken out and this may cause the distortion. I don't know if this is exactly or partly or even right at all, but it is what I heard.
  • aftyafty Member Posts: 499
What you wrote about MP3s is correct. They compress audio by removing parts of the sound that are not normally audible. However, to achieve the high compression rates of most MP3s you see (128 kbps or less), you end up dropping some audible parts of the signal, particularly high frequency sounds. This isn't usually noticable on low-quality computer speakers, but put the same MP3 on a CD and play it on a good system and you'll hear the distortion.
  • pdrumans1pdrumans1 Member Posts: 48
    Thanks for the info.
Wierd though is that my friends Honda Accord EX stock system, does not sound as distorted with the burned cd's as the Clarion unit does.
  • speedracer3speedracer3 Member Posts: 650
I've been transferring a lot of my tapes to CD's and playing them in my Maxima stereo and they sound great. The only audible distortions come from the tape or the recording itself.

Can anyone tell me why the lease price the Infiniti dealership gave me is far more than what leaseguide.com says it should be?

According to leaseguide.com, my monthly lease payment for the G35 leather, 39 Months, 12K miles per year, 58% residual value, and 2.55% interest rate should be about $360, not $450 as I was quoted by Infiniti.
  • joeandcarol2joeandcarol2 Member Posts: 152
yes the highway mileage is terrible. Maximas and Altimas get much better with essentially the same engine. I am begining to suspect its the auto tranny. It is agressively geared for an auto and I wonder if it has a lock up torque convertor. I am also waiting for the manual. My minimum real mileage at 75 mph on cruise would be 25. Got to have some standards!
  • joeandcarol2joeandcarol2 Member Posts: 152
hmmmmmmmm duh.... could it be that the dealer is trying to make more money? Unfortunately there are enough uniformed people that walk in everyday that the dealer gets away with crap like that.
  • 68nascar68nascar Member Posts: 7
To answer your question about the lease, the 2.55 is really .00255 which is a money factor used to compute the lease. To convert that to a normal interest rate you multiply by 24 which gives you 6.1% interest rate. Maybe this will help.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
let's meet in the Acura TL-S board. I will tell you all about it.

Now that my second tranny is starting to get funny, I wish I had gone with a Maxima... or could have waited for the G35!
  • ivan_99ivan_99 Member Posts: 1,681
Did they add the Title and Taxes in? That will cause the price to go up.
  • dmmattixdmmattix Member Posts: 77
I am not sure what is causing the low mileage. My wife has an I35 and that vehicle runs around 2500rpm at 70mph. The G35 runs around 2600rpm at 70mph. The I30 gets around 28mpg on straight highway cruise, the G35 gets just above 22mpg.

I first wondered about the lockup torque converter as the engine seems to wander in rpm with the cruise control on a flat highway. I then began to wonder about the cruise control since it is totally electronic with the DBW throttle but the Altima has that too.

Since the car is so new I wonder if anyone has had their first oil change and had a decent tank of highway travel since?? Someone on one of the forums (either here or freshalloy) said they had just done an oil change and put in Mobil1 5-30W. They claimed the engine smoothed out significantly. Maybe they will take their car on an extended highway cruise and measure the mileage??

    Greetings!

I am the one with the Infiniti Service manuals... I've been distracted from the message board lately, apologies...

I will look into the question you had about speedo calibration after I get home tonight (still at work now)

    Get back to you soon!

    Thank you guys!

It was something that I had't considered. I've never had a full 4 channel 4 wheel abs car before, so this was my first experience with that particular phenomena...

So you hear it in your cars as well? the sort of subtle "burrr..tunk" sound as you pull away from your morning start?

    Hello G35 Board
I have been a townhall subscriber, and occasional poster in the massive and amusing 300M board, since picking up a Chrysler 300M in 99. Just wanted to sign in on this board and say hello as I have traded my 300M for a G35.

Desert Platinum/Graphite Leather , Premium Pckg, Winter Pckg, Pwr Sunroof, Xenons and real wood trim. Very pretty car to look at.

In the past 90 days I cross shopped 530, A6 3.0, 300m Special and looked briefly at Licoln LS,
TL-S, and GS300 and even Pass at V6 GLX 4motion. Came down to A6 and G35. Although I was comfortable with the A6 price point, the better price and performance of the G won over bigger $$ and possibly more luxury of the A. Truth is I just never got really psyched about the A and when I saw a G on the highway here 3 weeks ago in the SF Bay area, I was transfixed.

I would also rate the Infiniti dealer experience as very good, positive even. Which is saying a lot given my usual feelings about car dealers.

Anyway, hope to read some great posts here and learn as much about the G35 as I learned about the 300M from that board.

    Happy Driving

It answer your question.... Asian [non-permissible content removed] are basically Asian guys and gals that customize their cars. If you've seen Fast and the Furious (great movie) it is a great example of the culture behind the term "Asian [non-permissible content removed]" or any ethnicity that turbo charges asian import vehicles; from Hondas to Acuras these probably are the most common. The more wealthy ones tend to tear apart IS300s and Mazda RX-7s.

I'm hoping to replace my 93 Maxima SE with a G35 later this year--leaning toward leather with the sport suspension, premium pkg, aero pkg (no spoiler) and xenon--most likely silver or desert platinum. So...who out there has bought or test driven the sport suspension? My local dealer didn't have one on the lot.

but does the DVD Navigation system play regular DVD's? I would think not otherwise it'd be advertised , but are the discs that same and why won't they play?

    thanks
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
DVD-ROM v. DVD Video for one thing. Also, the DVD Nav system is probably using a proprietary program that will only read DVD-ROMs with a certain program saved to it. It's like trying to use a Mac program in a Linnux system.
  • blinkerblinker Member Posts: 38
Let say you are getting 22 mpg. and think you should be getting 26mpg. If you drive the average 12000 miles per year, you will spend about $125 more for gas. I know a number of people that spend way more than that for add-ons or much more expensive cars to get the kind of performance that the G35 gets. Not a bad trade-off. Also I doubt seriously that anyone has a G35 that is anywhere close to having the mileage to the point where the car is running at peak efficiency.
  • heatmiser1heatmiser1 Member Posts: 122
What are the chances the 6 speed manual will be more expensive than the automatic version?

The touring model of the Nissan 350Z 6 speed manual is $1,700 more expensive than it's 5 speed automatic equivalent. Does anyone know why this is the case?
  • magnetophonemagnetophone Member Posts: 605
Excellent point blinker, if indeed it's only 125.00 a year. People spend that much at one trip to the detail people.
  • tonyg35tonyg35 Member Posts: 52
I think the 350z 6 speed manual is $1700 more expensive dued to the way that nissan package the car to those "diehard driving enthusiast" ie.. LSD,18 " wheel, Vehicle dynamic control etc... This is just a guess.

    Tony,
  • jerryd3jerryd3 Member Posts: 20
Yes, all the ABS equiped cars I have driven seem to make the sound as you describe. Each model seems to have a slightly different distance or speed from start that they do it at, but if it happens predictably at the same point, then I'm sure that is what it is.

If Maximas and Altimas with the VQ engine are getting better mileage than the G35 (which has a better CD) then the difference is most likely due to drive train losses. Those of you with long memories may recall thirty years ago when many of the car makers started switching over to front wheel drive configurations. Better efficiency was touted as one of the benefits. ...Fewer bearings and direction changes, etc. IMHO, a small price to pay to be rid of squirelly front wheel drive behaviors.
  • qx4qx4 Member Posts: 99
Its mainly due to the aggressive setup of the tranny. And its 5 speed which is suppose to be more efficient.

I will be keeping track and will post some results in few weeks. Hasn't been filled up yet, still on the first tank.
  • qx4qx4 Member Posts: 99
Some threads on fresh alloy confirmed a 5.9 0-60 of the G35 by Motorweek.

Pretty good numbers if its true.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
    do you miss the 300M?
  • pfschimpfschim Member Posts: 29
Ruski, your are a long time 300m poster that I remember. No, I do not miss the 300, it had got to be very creaky and buzzy inside despite my best efforts to maintain. While I did enjoy the overall feel, size and hp, I also felt the need for more performance rather than softer luxury. My wife is sorry to see the 300 go, she like the gold/almond paint and the bigness of the thing.

My overall feelings for the G are not quite jelled. I loved the initial feel and performance. The look is also very appealing. I also got a great deal, several hundred under invoice, 4k under MSRP, so $$ were a factor. It'll take a few weeks of driving to get a solid impression, I'll post as I get there.

It seems that there is a big variation in gas milage for both City and Highway driving.

When I first picked up my wife's G35, I drove it about 300 miles (mostly highway), with about 30 minutes of that (couldn't tell you how many miles) in city/traffic jam driving conditions. On the highway I drove between 70 and 85mph (about evenly between those speeds to help with engine break-in) and got 24.7mpg for the total trip.

The next tank was mostly city/highway (60/40) and we got 19.2mpg. The last tank was 40/60 (city/highway) and got 23.7mpg. That was even with some heavy acceleration/100+mph driving.

Overall, I have been quite satisfied with the mpg's of the G35. I have a Dodge Durango with a V8 that has 245/232 (hp/ft-lb torque) and it only gets 13-15 city/highway (see 23.7mpg above) and ~16-17 highway. Don't mind the G's mpg's at all.

However, one thing that I HAVE noticed, when you step on the gas hard, you KILL your mpg's. It doesn't take much. If you are easy on the gas pedal, the mpg's improve dramatically.

Also, someone had posted that they thought the nav system mpg monitor was not accurate. I have checked it on two tanks and it seems to be dead on in my experience.

I have driven both the standard and sport suspension G35's and, personally, thought that the standard suspension actually handled better and that was after driving both HARD over the same roads. However, there DOES appear to be a surprising amount of difference in how various "G's" are perceived, so your experience may be different than mine.

Personally, I would recommend you actually drive the car you intend to buy with the suspension you want to make sure it is what YOU want. My sales person basically said, "How good can it be at only $450 more than the standard suspension. Heck, the rims probably account for most of that..." I would have waited MONTHS if Infiniti had a $1400 package that was equivalent to the BMW 330i sport package. Upgraded seats and much wider tires, along with the sport-tuned suspension would have been AWESOME!!! (Hint, hint, Infiniti... :)

I may be missing something, but what is all the talk about the G35’s mpg being less than the Altima & Maxima.

The Altima with auto is 19/26
The Maxima with auto is 20/26

The “current” G35 listing is 19/26

To me these numbers seem very similar (especially when the G35 has better performance)

I actually think 19/26 is very good for a car with 260hp 260ft-lbs…
  • boomer23boomer23 Member Posts: 125
pfschim, welcome, you made a great choice. From reading this board and Freshalloy.com, I have to say that you got the best deal of anyone I have heard of, by about $2500. How in the world did you do that, and which dealer in California?
  • dmmattixdmmattix Member Posts: 77
What most folks have been saying (me included) is that in actuality the 26 highway is a pipe dream. Maybe after it has gotten broken in well (5K miles) but not early(I have 2100 miles on mine). The only one who has been getting the mileage I had expected is stsurbrook who actually got 24.7 for a 300 mile mostly highway trip. I don't recall anyone getting close to that. The best I have done is 22.1mpg and my mileage mix is about 70/30 highway to city.

I will take 5 qts of Mobil 1 with me to get the oil changed at 3500 and see if that makes a difference in either performance or mileage.

The ambient temperature display in my G35 is reading in error. Today it reads 69 degrees for an actual temperature of 84 degrees, even after a 20 minute drive. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?
  • gandhim3gandhim3 Member Posts: 191
Actually, chances are that the DVD system can indeed play movies, its just that the feature is disabled for us shue-happy Ameircans ("honest officer, watching Shannon Elizabeth in American Pie is what caused me to get in a wreck").

I have read reports that the navigation screen s for BMW and Mercedes cars over in Europe are set up to recieve TV signals as well. Just that these features are disabled in the trip across the pond before we get the cars.

I bet that the feature could be reactivated - may be something is mentioned in the service manuals ....

Test drove a G35 yesterday and my concerns about the steering and brakes being too touchy have been alleviated. They are fine. After about five minutes of negotiation, the dealer came down $1200 from sticker. This is about $1800 over invoice. A few more weeks and supply will outrun demand and $1000 over invoice will be reasonable. Please post deals in relation to invoice. The $375 advertising fee and $249 document fee (at this dealer) are both ridiculous!
  • tiger8tiger8 Member Posts: 120
Where are you that you got $1,200 off sticker?
  • memphisslim1memphisslim1 Member Posts: 37
j1G35. At 1,000 miles, my G35 ambient temperature displayed is right on target, and I have compared it to both the radio weather temp and a couple of bank temp displays (seen a variance of maybe 1-2 degrees depending on location). So if you are continuing to have problems, suggest you get Infiniti service to check it.

Really enjoyed the post a couple of days ago from the guy who wanted to push the distance between him a tailgating Maxima on a twisty road, and then before he realized it running by a police officer going in the opposite direction. I was there with you, man. Only a G-owner realizes how difficult it can be keep to keep that light pressure on the gas pedal. The G is at her best driving onto a cloverleaf highway ramp a little faster than necessary (and with no other cars around) and holding tight during gravity drift. I'm middle aged and it still speeds up my heart and give me a feeling of satifaction with technology. Still get a lot of looks and nods in my G, and I still look forward to driving it every day (after a month of ownership) and continue to find it quite exhilarating. Never have had this consistent of an experience with any car before. At a thousand miles, haven't had one problem with my G.

Do you know someone who works for the Infiniti dealership? 4k under MSRP is amazing! Local dealers wouldn't even give 1k under MSRP. Please let us know your car buying secrets.

About the term "Asian [non-permissible content removed]" that has been used here several times -- the Town Hall does not allow that sort of terminology directed towards vehicles or people because of its ethnic-slur origins.

We've just had an extensive conversation in the Talk to the Town Hall Hosts discussion on the News & Views board in which our Community Manager confirmed this policy.

So please avoid using "rice" in this way in the future. Thanks.

Congrat on your new G. On your post #4289 you said you paid several hundred "under" invoice. Amazing!!! How did you do that? Pls share with us.
  • stsurbrookstsurbrook Member Posts: 285
I saw your "G" sitting outside the dealership when we did our 2nd test drive. I was the one with the heavy foot. :) Oh, and I was wrong about going twice the yellow speed recommendation, it was 4 times (don't know why they had that stretch of road posted at 15mph)...

If you see a white G35 with aero and a heavy-set guy with brown hair, moustache, glasses, and a SEG, honk! I'll recognize your black G.

    Scott

PS. My wife has the car until Wednesday and is driving to West Virginia today (wish *I* was)!

Getting performance out of a car in high altitude (Denver) has always been a challenge. A 3301 in Denver is a mere shadow of a 330i at sea level. Imagine my joy when I found a car that works up here. I speak of the G35. It puts the 330i to shame (well, almost). The 330i is a very good automobile. The Infiniti G35 is simply better. it our handles, out accelerates, is more quiet and roomy. Now if they would just give up on the analog clock concept and make the time part of the digital display! Oh....and get out the 6 speed manual ASAP!
