Thankfully, the Japanese put some effort into styling more than being purely corporate. Acuras are not exactly diverging from each other (they are converging with RSX, that's for sure)... but still, better than Germans' "everything has to look the same."

Several car magazines rate the G35's interior noise levels to be stellar in their quietness at 70mph, but people make claims that the engine is as loud if not louder than "car x" from their personal experience.
I'm not certain of the engineering aspects of how the G's muffler system works, but I noticed that the engine growls noticeably loudly under acceleration, but settles in and is quite subtle at speed...
I'm thinking that people hear the engine under acceleration and equate that level with the overall sound template. It is after all, a very distinctive roar

As for the G35, I'm waiting for the dealers here in Houston to come off MSRP. In the meantime, I will just be tooling around in my TL.
How many CTSs has Cadillac sold? I was checking the TMV here at Edmund's and the G35 TMV is still MSRP while the CTS has a fairly standard $500 discount..
I've read that Nissan is very proud of the muffler for this car. Seems it has an internal baffle that allows for a very nice rumble during acceleration but then is quite at a steady speed. I agree with your comment and love the sound that this makes under acceleration--it not only feels like a V-8 it sounds like it as well.
I'm posting this because as I was waiting for my mats a salesman came up to me because I was looking at a Sequoia on the showroom floor.
He gave me the slick routine that I hate and almost had that "How much can you afford per month" line going into his third sentence to me!
I told him I already bought an Infiniti G35 and I was just looking while waiting for my car mats.
He goes on to almost ridicule me by saying, I bet you paid thru the nose for the Infiniti and this Sequoia has the new IForce V-8 it has much more power and more room in the car!
I never made eye contact with him (I was looking at the engine as the hood was up) and I said casually, "Actually the G35 with a v-6 makes more horsepower than this v-8 and its in a car that weighs about 2000 lbs less..."
I waited a few more seconds to see what his response to that was, but when I looked up, he was gone!
Maybe he went on the net to see if I was telling the truth *laughing*
Toyota makes some good stuff, but Christ! Why do the salespeople I talk to all have to be so condescending and misinformed? Is it me?! am I unlucky?!

I decided that a slightly used 528i would be the logical alternative, but I found the car emotionally uninvolving. It did everything right, but I found that I didn't really care. A dealer even gave me the keys and told me to go have fun. The 5 felt very businesslike and competent, but I wasn't smiling. It also wasn't my definition of luxurious inside.
I do love the look of both the 3 and the 5 series. I think that the 5 is the best looking 4 door out there. But I can't see the outside when I'm driving it.
With my G35, I get a more powerful car that handles as well as I will ever need it to, a supple suspension, plenty of room for my needs, the options that I like, all the most up-to-date safety and electronic traction control stuff, for the price of BMW's cheapest, and I still get to enjoy looking at the outsides of all the 5 series that I come across. The seats are not the most gripping, but I love the look and feel of them. I really do think that the G is a beautiful car, and most people I've shown it to agree. The rear end and flat sides have grown on me and I just plain love the front end views (I have a nice dark metallic blue one).
Since you drive an S2000 and really want a sports package, manual trans model, I doubt that you will love the G even after you drive it. The G coupe six speed will be more to your tastes. But please let us know how you like the test drive. I found that my small quibbles melted away after I experienced the acceleration and handling on my first short drive in a G35. Funny how our brains can be won over by the seat of our pants.
However, it is darned HARD to do. I was next to a red MB (something)420 (a smallish coupe, I think) today at a stoplight. I had glanced over at the car and thought, "Oh, nice for a MB, but who cares" and faced forward to wait for the light. When it turned green, I saw the driver glance over at me and heard/saw him punch it. On an impulse I did the same (expecting him to blow me a way with the MB's 4.2-liter engine) and by 45mph I was ahead by a car length and he gave up... LOL!!!
Trying to get good gas milage is going to be TOUGH!

Having bought four Toyotas in my family, I would have to say that my last sales experience was the final straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.
I have sworn off Toyotas - they make some damn fine cars (albeit incredible boring and uninspiring), but just about all the other car companies (particularly the Japanese) can match Toyota on quality. It may not show up now, but it will add up - their snobby dealers will have their day of reckoning. They already lost one repeat customer - me, and losing repeat customers is expensive to the bottom line.
That's so true of about 95% of them. They don't even know about their own cars, let alone the competition. It's not that tough.
So I got 18.81 MPG on about 70-highway/30-city driving. I did push the car pretty hard though, still hope it improves.
GAS MILEAGE - 18.81 MPG with 70/30 highway/city driving is really poor for a V6 vehicle this size. I know some of you will say you can't have performance and good gas mileage in the same vehicle but I disagree. Sure you won't find 30+ MPG in this class. My pops has a Acura TL-S and drives 30/70 highway/city and averages 24 MPG. He is not an ultra aggressive driver but he does push the car (enough for my wife not to like driving with him) quite often. I consider 24 MPG for mainly city driving in a 260HP high performance engine very good. I consider "18 and change" in a 260HP engine very poor. Al things aside, I like the G35 styling much, much more than the TL-S. I just hope the 6 speed manual will provide better gas mileage
You must be in a minority of one if you find the Italian cars boring. I don't think I've ever heard that before.
"others, like myself find Ferraris and Lambos boring to the extreme."
This has to be the funniest thing that I have read on this board. Still, you are entitled to your opinion.
That's not too bad for an engine which is still breaking in. If I drove 55mph all the time it may be bad, but I usually hit 90 at least once per day and consistently drive over 75.
neo_gtrw: The back end is my favorite view of the car. If it were on the new 550 it would be praised.
The M coupe does look like the Ambiguously Gay Duo. LOL I hadn't thought of that before.
If you see something like this, the thing to do is drop me an email. It doesn't do you any good to respond, because I have to remove the responses as well as the offensive post. (And honestly, it's not an easy or quick process to remove a bunch of messages!!)
Thanks to the fact that someone did email me, I got here immediately. However, I want everyone to understand that the Town Hall is not monitored in real time, and sometimes offensive posts will remain longer than anyone would like.
Anyway, it has been handled and kudos to the person who did email me!
Thanks.

I am not really concerned with the mileage I am getting but would be if I were getting 16mpg...
WIll keep the site posted on the details of driving the car after I get it.
Specifically Liked:
The plush seats sitting higher than my Acura Legend. The distance to the pedals while holding the steering wheel. I'm 6'0 and felt comfy, after adjusting my seat I went into the back seat and although I had to manuver in to it my knees were not hitting the front seat. I like the interior bits and find them to be ok quality wise so I don't know what the big deal is - go twist some knobs on some American cars if you want cheap hollow plastic. Wheels, size, options, colors, engine.
Didn't like: The steering wheel controls look like they are from my 1980's boombox! I really don't like the orange backlighted gauges. Blower speed via buttons? Resting elbow on door edge when driving is too high. Window switch pos's. Rear end, premium fuel, seeing a dork driving one the other day.
Some dealers are willing to present close matches, some aren't. I think it is an effort thing.

I may be the only one which thinks it is the best angle of the car.
Different dealers have given me different info about delivery date. One dealership said that Infiniti only accepts orders at certain intervals while another said they fax it right over and then it is made. Both however did say about 6-8 weeks so hopefully that hold up and it doesn't go into July.
Anyone know if there is any rule of thumb for this stuff about whether the 6-8 week thing is there to placate us or reasonable accurate?
I think it took the "Kias have the best styling of any car on the road" comments we saw over in N&V not too long ago to approach that.
Thanks for the laugh!
Bill
Some dealers will check for incoming vehicles that they can "swap" with other dealers. Apparently, while ear-marked for a certain dealer, until they get unloaded off the ship, they can be redirected to another dealer. They just need to swap vehicles. Can't always be done, but can be done sometimes.

You live in the Tulsa area? I live in Jenks and work in Okmulgee (hence the commute description).
He cmpared the CTS, G35, A4 and X-type. Granted, it's not a very 'deep' article at all, but...hey! Good press ='s more sales (???), or at least more interest!
Not sure if this link will work if you want to read the full article:
http://www.businessweek.com/@@pFV6YmcQ1WUDoAwA/premium/content/02_16/b3779608.htm
If not, here are a couple of the highlights:
CTS: Liked the handling. Thought underpowered compared to the rest, cheap interior.
G35: His favorite, liked the power and handling and thought it was the best value of the bunch, loved the interior/leather, didn't like the seat controls though.
A4: After testing, he preferred the A6.
X-type: Enjoyed the car, but thought unusally soft brakes and thought Jag stepped too low and the X-type would have made a nice Lincoln instead.
His ending statement: "All of these entry-level luxury cars ask a big question: What's really in a name? The G35 is a better buy than the X-type, even though most people think more highly of Jaguar than Infiniti. Cadillac isn't as hip as many European marques such as Audi or BMW, but the CTS is a great driving car that dares to be different. That's why, when it comes to buying entry-level luxury cars, ignore the brand names and get the car with the best drive and most comfort".
He forgot to add "SMILES!" (VERY IMPORTANT, IMVHO)

keeping fingers crossed that I dont have to wait until July. Fortunately I don't see many on the road so I won't get as restless as I would if I was seeing them everyday!
