    no brainer?

    Try another dealership?

how far away was your dealer?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
2 and a half hours. Only 2 dealerships i found in my general area that accepted the supplier deal on the silverados were a bunch of _____ fill in the blank. Actually it was nice buying far away. Also my uncle lives out there so it wasnt a waste of a trip. Got to see some family and buy a new truck

Best part about any inline six engine, more bearings (7 vs 5) to support the crankshaft. Worst part is the added length.

That's a reasonable question, sorry I didn't explain myself better.
At the time I was looking, March 2000, the GM truck lines that built 3/4 and 1 ton trucks were all shut down to convert over to the new heavy dutys that were coming out in the fall. I tried several dealers to find a left over and there were none on the east coast.
The dealers all had the same story. "GM doesn't think there is much of a market for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, so they only make a few for each area of the country". The dealers said they have complained for years and pointed to all the trucks Ford and Dodge sell in that catagory, but GM was sticking to thier story.
I think they may have seen the light, at least I hope so. I like GM trucks and would like to see more of them in the class I need.

Almost every diesel owner I have talked to says the same thing..."I heard Chevy is having some problems with the aluminum heads..."

It's really quite flattering, because at http://www.thedieselpage.com no one has documented even one head problem, and quite a few frauds have been exposed, since there is a staffer there who handles warranty issues for the new Isuzu diesel plant in Moraine Ohio. He reviews EVERY engine that has been sent back under the 1st year warranty replacement policy. And while there have been a few, none for head problems. But almost every Ford and Dodge owners seems to have a story, a friend, a neighbor, who had a head problem ;o) I guess this is the natural result with something new, especially when it's dominating the headlines and horsepower charts at the moment.

Anyway, the 100k limited warranty is true. Not mentioned in the dealer literature for some reason, but it's on the window sticker of every new Duramax, and also on http://www.gmbuypower.com

They are still too new to know about the long run, except that Isuzu has built more truck diesel engines than anybody, 13M.

I have driven the Ford Powerstroke diesel, 2 of them, but no Cummins yet. Compared to Powerstroke, the Duramax is quieter, not quite as strong off the bottom, quite a bit stronger on top.
