99 Grand Am Transmission Problems

The transmission in my '99 Grand Am died this week. I am trying to find out if this is a fluke, or if others have experienced problems with their Grand Am's as well. It's fairly 'new', doesn't get driven hard, and has mostly highway miles. The dealer says this happens 'every once in a while'. Has anyone else out there experienced this?

I had a tranny go out at about 7500 miles on a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina sedan I bought new. After the runaround I got, I am very sour on GM.
