99 VW PASSAT CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM-HELP!

I have a 99 VW Passat, V6, Manual Transmission that I am having problems with the cruise control. I have purchased the vehicle used within the past 3 months from a good dealership (not VW) in South Bend, Indiana, and when I first got the car, I had no problems at all with the cruise control. About 3 weeks ago, the cruise control operation started to become sporadic where it would disengage by itself, and/or would not engage when I would press the button to set the speed. Now it is to the point where is just doesn't work.
Does this sound like just a fuse issue or is this something bigger?
The vehicle has just over 37,000 miles on it. If it is something bigger than a fuse issue, will this be covered by the vehicle warranty?
