2001 Suburban engine problems

would like to hear any comments about the following: i took our new '01 suburban 5300 1/2 ton LT into the dealer after hearing tapping noises. was told that at least some of the lifters are the problem. they are replacing all 16 of them. after a bad experience with dodge, thought i'd give the chevy trucks a shot, but i'm not feeling very confidant about reliability right now. any thoughts about this reflecting systematic build problems with this engine?

thanks,

there is a lot of information on this type of noise mostly due to what people are describing as a piston slap problem. Haven't read anything in the forums about a lifter problem. Check Silverado problems and Silverado owners clubs.

The 5300 seems to be a reliable engine but it can be noisy. Can you explain more about when your engine would make the tapping noises? I won't be surprised if the lifters are not the problem. I am not saying the lifters won't fix your engine, but...
Anyway, please update us on the dealer visit.
