This whole Q realignment nonsense seems really poorly thought out to me. Was their previous scheme deficient in some manner? Arbitrarily slapping some numbers after the letter only serves to make things even more confusing for the consumer.

Reminds me of the whole Netflix/Qwikster debacle...if it isn't broke, why try to fix it?

There's something "wrong" at Infiniti. Outside of the insanely ridiculous utilization of "Q" as their primary naming structure, the fact that they appear to just be formulating these ideas to create certain cars is a bit baffling. And the fact that most of these ideas won't come to fruition for many years in the future is a big risk, considering their sales have been fairly stagnant except with the GS. And the new FX isn't due for at least 3 years? Its last update was in 2008/2009, I think, so it should be getting a thorough update now, not in 3 years. It almost seems like Infiniti doesn't have its hand on the pulse. The RX and Q5 have been around for years and they are now just considering a direct competitor? And the A3 and CLA have been either on the market or in development for years and they are now just considering a competitor? Either they are creating a smoke screen, or there is something seriously amiss at the top of the ladder.

At first I was baffled by the name changes, but ultimately it isn't so very different from Audi's A(3,4,5,6,7,8) though it does throw away a little perfectly good brand equity. It also makes sense for Infiniti to expand incrementally, like Cadillac has done, rather than trying to match BMW and Mercedes model-for-model right off the bat. However it does seem odd that a halo car based off the GTR isn't in the initial plans. That seems like it would be the easiest project to get off the ground and build instant recognition for the brand. While I'm not all that interested in FWD cars myself, the A3/CLA fighter is a very good idea.

I personally just think that they are just trying to convey some positive change in the company since we haven't seen anything too exciting (performance-wise) from them recently.
