I may have misunderstood but couldn't you just leave one of the children in the third row thereby having plenty of room for Uncle Jason and other child in the second?
We started family life with a Honda Odyssey, which had great space for 2 kids and any other passengers we needed to bring along. Lots of space for the 2 kids and Uncle Jason.
My wife started to consult and thought the Odyssey was a bit to "momish." So we traded it in for the Acura MDX. More style? Sure. All wheel drive was nice in the winter but less gas mileage, premium gas required, and much less space. We did use it a lot though...and when we traded it in? Back to an Odyssey, the Touring model...Acura like features with minivan functionality....we needed the space for our road trips.
A woman with two kids is worried about being mom-ish? She IS a mom - WTF? And then the Acura MDX is just not big enough for a family of four - ? And you're buying $45k-$50k vehicles but worried about buying premium because it's twenty cents a gallon more? World's gone nuts.
First of all, the MDX was a lease return...we spent about $24,000 on it.
Secondly, when you are consulting, sometimes, image matters. And when you pick up clientele, a minivan sends the wrong message. And we travel with two large dogs and bikes and other things, including friends and grandparents and the MDX came up short in that area...we kept the MDX for about 7 years and 164K miles...so it we did get full use out of it...and it was a great snow vehicle....we thought about getting another MDX but practicality won out and we got another Odyssey.
I'm explaining what might influence people to purchase a particular vehicle at a particular time and I don't think you should be so judgmental.
