    "With the birth of their first child, they decided a midsize SUV was in order to replace her beloved but aging BMW 3 Series." This is what I don't get about people. Why does adding a 3rd passenger mean that a 5 passenger vehicle is suddenly not enough? Having a kid wasn't enough to make me give up my Miata, and we downsized the wife's car. I understand if we have a second then at that point I will probably need to give up the Miata for something with a back seat.

    stovt001: The Santa Fe Sport is actually the 5-passenger version of the Santa Fe. It sounds like they just replaced one 5-passenger vehicle for another. While I'm no fan of SUVs (or CUVs or whatever), moving from a sedan (I'm guessing) to a hatchback is a logical move.

    We had our first child 2 years ago and we have plenty of room in my Wife's M3 sedan. We live in Colorado and with snow tires it goes everywhere, no need for an SUV.

    @stovebolter: true. It gets confusing with the Santa Fe / Sante Fe sport distinction, and I think of the larger Santa Fe being the "midsize" to the SF Sport's "compact", whereas something like a Suburban, Tahoe, or Expedition would be

    Both of those things bother me equally. But that's OK - they're saddled with that beast, not me.
