That's just another reason to convert American to metric system. In Canada, like in almost the rest of the world, we are using the "liters/100km" which is exactly the same as the new standard you are talking about.
    Comparing a 10L/100km to a 8L/100km car, you save 2L/100km
    Comparing a 7L/100km to a 5L/100km car, you save "2L/100km"
I know, I know, not necessary to switch to metric system to have the equivalent in English system. Simply convert from mpg to gpm and that's it. But metric system is more convenient for everything, even for gaz consumption...!

I recently purchased the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT coming from a ford escape yes great gas mileage however not as I'd expected. While the ride is pretty comfortable when going to 55-60 is bumpy for lack of better term. Also, when turning a couple of times it didnt handle well and I almost felt as if the break pedal area was hitting the ground. I havent taken it on any long trips yet so its possible I'll get 38mpg as promised.

I dont like the sneaky way they sell cars either, its too stressful & pisses me off.

Prior to test driving the Hyundai Elantra GT I test drove the prius. What apiece of TIN and all the mechanisms for $35G's? oh and that sales experience wasnt very nice either. The young lady became nasty when I decided not to buy.

Dollar for dollar I feel the Hyundai is a better interior, not so tinny but I'm sorry that I didnt test drive the Honda civic or get a 4cyl Ford Escape.

The math used in this article is very poor and misleading. Here is the problem. This statement from the article is false. "What this means is if you were to trade in a car getting 12.5 mpg for one getting 25 mpg, it would obviously deliver fuel economy that was twice as good. But if you later traded that car getting 25 mpg for one getting 50 mpg, that exchange would not save you twice as much." That quote is totally wrong. It would save twice as much. The scenario that the author should have used is getting a 12.5 MPG increase from 12.5 to 25 and then another 12.5 MPG increase from 25 to 37.5 MPG. Then the additional statements would make more sense. Even though the MPG increase was the same number, the percentage improvement would only be 50 percent better instead of 100 percent better.
