Why not just let the airbag deploy in a collision even if the passenger seat is empty? The car will be totaled anyway in case of a front collision.

Airbag not working properly after recall with light on/off intermittently. Grubbs Nissan dealer (Bedford TX) and Nissan North America customer support stated that user weight (120 lbs) does not meet threshold to arm airbag. Nissan stated the passenger weight threshold is 125 lbs. Car buyers be aware of this information as the threshold is not in published documents.
