    The nav/MPG/presets screen in my 2010 Mazda 3s 2.5L -- I believe the same as yours in photo above -- can in fact be entirely turned off, but it's not easy to find the menu option. It's at "Settings" / "Preferences" / "Screen Adjustment" / "Screen Off".
