They put 3.08 gears in these now? That's insane with 20 inch wheels. Never mind 3.42 axles, I would want 3.73 or 4.10 with those boots and that weight. I had 3.42 gears on a 2001 Tahoe and it also had no part throttle acceleration. With the 4-speed box they had then that was nasty.

On paper the new engine has a great low end torque curve and 1st gear in the 6L80 is short enough to make even the EPA axle look like a 4.10 off the line. The last 380 lb-ft truck GM built with a 4.10 axle was the Silverado SS and it laid rubber. This could too.

But it doesn't because GM torque managed it into fleet grade suck like they do everything else they sell that isn't explicitly a performance vehicle. It's like an Eco button that you can't turn off without sending $400 and the rest of your powertrain warranty to a tuner company.

Compare those weak numbers and "step on it harder" subjectives to the 5.0 F-150 that Edmunds tested a while back.

3.08 rear end is disappointing. Got worse numbers than a Ram 1500 3.6 V6 that Edmunds recently tested.

    Slower acceleration (0-30, 0-60, 0-75 mph, 1/4-mile)
Longer braking distances (30-0, 60-0 mph)
Worse Edmunds observed FE by 20%.

@aspade I recall an Edmunds dyno test of a previous GM truck that showed exactly what you described. However, Edmunds are in California and I have always wondered if this is a CARB emissions thing rather than a general torque management effort.

This is the most bs I've read to date in a review. This combined with the SERIOUSLY opinionated car ratings is getting really old!

apples to oranges, the GMC is 4x4 but that Ram 1500 was 4x2

"We've been on this nameless stretch of road before in a handful of vehicles, most recently in one of those sport-tuned, lifestyle pickup trucks for guys with quads and flat-billed hats. That truck skittered and bounced down this glorified cart path like a puppy on ice. On the same road, the 2014 GMC Sierra feels completely in control while still keeping us isolated."

Are you talking about the Raptor? If so go hit some washouts at 60mph in the GMC and see how well it hold's up. I like the Silverado/Sierra but this was a huge fluff piece with nothing but praise, did GM pay you to write this?

Ford is going to [non-permissible content removed] slap this thing next year with the redesigned F150. If the new Ford looks anything like the Atlas concept and weighs 800lbs less, it will be no contest. GM better enjoy the newness while they can.

I love trucks, but 50K? My house cost 70K.
    That's an incredible number.

Beware of "Fan Boys". The Chevy vs. Ford debate, as old as the horse & buggy.

There is nothing wrong with square arches, I think they looks a lot better on SUV's. I always loved the square arches on Jeep's and thought the round ones on Dodge SUV's were hideous. Although, I would agree that the ones on the new siera and silverado may be a little over done.

3.08 gears in a crewcab 4x4 is absurd for anyone who wants to tow something. I'd be curious to see the FE hit with 3.42 or 3.73 gears.

It's nice of you to post this glowing review so GMC can read it. Is it better than the RAM though? The RAM has coil-springs, an 8-speed auto, 3 MPG better rating, and the interior is at least as good. I have no doubt this demolishes the aging, cheap-feeling, epically popular F-150.

@brankobox Huh? The GMC is 4x4, 300 pounds heavier than the Ram 1500 tested. Braking from 30 and 60 are identical. Acceleration to 60 is identical, with the GMC faster thru the 1/4 mile. The Ram V6 gets 1.0 MPG better observed than the GMC V8 (15.8 v

Looking at the new Vette it is obvious that GM has the capability to innovate and improve. Sadly, this truck is a glowing example of how they refuse to take even the slightest chances when it comes to their trucks... interior looks like something out of the 80s and exterior is as ugly as it gets. Combine that with the horrible gear ratio and mediocrity with almost every aspect of design (never mind the under-powered small block V8s) and it is obvious that GM isn't making any effort at all. Oh, but the 5 USB ports should make up for it... yeah that's it...
